Kiss Me Kate (1953) 109 min. (Colour)
Directed by George Sidney, with Kathryn Grayson, Howard Keel, Ann Miller, Bobby Van, Bob Fosse and Tommy Rall
Adapted from Shakespeare’s “The Taming of the Shrew”, Cole Porter’s delightful Broadway play is turned into a bright entertainment package with songs, dances, and comedy. The Oscar-nominated score includes “Wunderbar”, “So In Love”, and “Always True to You in My Fashion”. The stars are perfectly cast, with Ann Miller a standout in what may be her best screen role. A truly great score makes this a musical treat. Don’t miss this rare opportunity to see it on the big screen!
Stars and Stripes Forever (1952) 89 min. (Colour)
Directed by Henry Koster, with Clifton Webb, Robert Wagner, Ruth Hussey, Debra Paget and Finlay Currie
A most enjoyable Golden Globe-nominated musical having practically nothing to do with the life of John Philip Sousa, aka “The March King”. A charming little fictional family drama is substituted for biography, but the music is authentic, rousing, and consistently well-performed. Sit back and enjoy!
November 24, 2019 – MILLION DOLLAR MERMAID (1952), directed by Mervyn LeRoy, with Esther Williams, Victor Mature and Walter Pidgeon.
