Eastman House Weekend Has Come to an End

Raiding The Vaults at Eastman House

34 Consecutive Years

George Eastman House

The Toronto Film Society, founded in 1948, is one of Canada’s oldest film appreciation groups. Our non-profit organization was originally formed to meet the demand for non-mainstream or commercial films, whether international, independent, banned, or forgotten. TFS has donated monies to assist in dedicating to the presentation, preservation and restoration of vintage films.

The George Eastman House International Museum of Photography and Film has within its walls one of the world’s oldest film archives. Recognized as a leader in film preservation and photography conservation, the Eastman Museum has educated many of the top film conservationists throughout the world. The museum’s impressive archives include more than 25,000 film titles produced between 1894 and today.

Toronto Film Society had organized a yearly visit to the George Eastman Museum for the past 34 consecutive years each August for selective screenings at the Dryden Theatre.  Regrettably, due to increasing costs we are unable to continue presenting this fantastic festival weekend.

Toronto Film Society is still presenting its annual May Festival Weekend.  You will find all the films for the May Movie Magic festival listed on the home page.  We hope you will consider attending.

TFS is looking into the possibility of presenting another film festival to replace the Eastman Museum festival, and if we do, we’ll post the information here.  So stay tuned.

I love vintage Hollywood. and your society sounds ideal. Sadly I live in Scotland, but I have a blog, Vienna’s Classic Hollywood and I intend doing an article about the TFS.
I’d welcome any comments from you.
Do you get many young folk attending your screenings?
    Thank you

I’m so sorry to hear this event has come to an end. Hopefully, some time in the future it will come to life again. Until then, I look forward to what may replace it.
