Storyline
Based on a fantasy/romance novel by the then-popular Gertrude Atherton, and described as “subtle science fiction”, it takes its title from a line by William Butler Yeats: “The years like great Black Oxen tread the world.” A young man falls in love with an Austrian countess who seems to be young, but is actually a great deal older than she appears to be.
