A STELLAR COMEBACK AT AGE 75
The Toronto Film Society Welcomes Back Audiences,
Celebrates its Diamond Jubilee
Toronto, ON – September 12, 2022 – The Toronto Film Society is among scores of national arts organizations now warmly greeting live audiences again. One of the oldest film societies in North America, TFS is presenting a fall/winter programme starting October 2nd, 2022 and running through April 23rd, 2023 at Innis Town Hall Theatre on the University of Toronto’s St. George campus. Film buffs can finally return to enjoying vintage movies on the big screen, the way they were meant to be seen, surrounded by like-minded enthusiasts.
More than just offering engaging movies (plus a few shorts), TFS screenings provide participants with valuable educational extras. These bonus features include introductory remarks and special guests supplying contextual settings, background production notes, and trademark “Spot the Canadian” biographies that highlight this country’s astonishing contributions to Hollywood.
This fall marks the group’s 75th Anniversary, with special showings of its founders’ favourite films. In addition, four legendary Canadians will be honoured as the first ever recipients of
awards from the Toronto Film Society: TFS patron, director Norman Jewison, C.C. OOnt; TFS patron, IMAX co-inventor Graeme Ferguson CM; TFS scholar-in-residence, renowned film expert Professor Graham Petrie and acclaimed director Alvin Rakoff.
Before each film presentation, we’ll be showing SSSHHHHH…..!!!, a short film produced for the Toronto Film Society in 1980 by director and TFS patron Ron Mann and starring a great friend of TFS, TV’s Elwy Yost.
Memberships for series are reasonably priced and available through the TFS website, torontofilmsociety.com. To celebrate its 75th Anniversary plus its links to the University of Toronto, TFS is also offering a limited number of free seats to U of T students.
