Storyline
An exciting jewel of a film about the ingenious theft of a jewel-encrusted dagger from the Topkapi Museum in Istanbul. The big heist scene may strike some as a more elaborate reshooting of the classic scene in Rififi (1955), and they’ll be right. Both are the work of ace director Jules Dassin, and he’s assembled a flawless cast of charming rogues and charlatans. Shot on location.
Did you know:
1) Cited by Mission: Impossible (1966) TV series creator Bruce Geller as the inspiration for his own series.
2) Early in the film when Peter Ustinov talks to tourists he says “Je parle Belgique” (“I speak Belgian”). A decade later he would play legendary Belgian detective Hercule Poirot.
