Rudolph Valentino

Upon reading Clyde Gilmour’s article about TFS Silent Series, Miss A.M. Peters of Toronto telephoned our Membership Assistant, Rhea Anger, to tell her that her late brother had shared quarters in New York City with the artist Levon Fairchild West and that Mr. West had done a sketch of Rudolph Valentino on which Valentino had written and signed a note of praise.  She found a copy of this sketch on a glass plate (probably part of an early photographic process) and was generous enough to have a print made from this and donated it to TFS.  This print is reproduced above.  It is signed “Levon Fairchild West 1923” and bears the appreciation “To Mr. West, the only artist who so far has made a good sketch of me.  Best wishes for a brilliant career–Sincerely–Rudolph Valentino”.
