Arsenic and Old Lace (1944) at the Paradise Theatre

Toronto Film Society presents Arsenic and Old Lace (1944) at the Paradise Theatre on Sunday, May 5, 2024 at 2:30 p.m.

Screwball comedy meets the macabre in one of director Frank Capra’s most uncharacteristic and entertaining films. When Mortimer Brewster (Cary Grant) discovers his beloved aunts are actually serial killers, it sets off a series of brilliant, darkly comical interludes as Mortimer attempts to keep his family’s morbid secret hidden from his innocent fiancée. With Capra’s trademark wit, comic timing, and rogues’ gallery of memorably eccentric characters, this is a true classic that only gets better with age.

The programme includes at least one surprise short film, and we expect the event will wrap up just before 5 pm.
